M. Osman Korfmann Library is opened with a ceremony on 25.02.2007 starting at 14.00. The ceremony began with the opera performance of Umur Sevim, accompanied by Müge Hendekli on the piano. Among many participants from Turkey and abroad there was also Prof. Korfmann’s wife Katia Korfmann. At the opening Çanakkale-Tübingen Troia Foundation Executive Board Director Enver Sadık Yılmaz, Board of Trustees Director Prof. Dr. Muharrem Satır, Director of Tübingen Troia Foundation Dr. Hans Günther Jansen, Director of Troia Project Prof. Dr. Ernst Pernicka, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Old Rector Prof. Dr. Ramazan Aydın, Tübingen University Rector Bernd Engler, Çanakkale Mayor Ülgür Gökhan, Governor Orhan Kırlı, German Embassy cultural officer Bernd Reindl and journalist Haluk Şahin made a speech. The speaches were mainly about the works of Prof. Korfmann, which he carried out since 1982 and his contributions by donating his own library to Çanakkale. Besides, it was mentioned that Prof. Korfmann had always participated in the cultural activities in the city and set a close relationship with the local people. University rectors emphasized that there is a cooperation agreement between the archaeology departments of two universities, which will go on.

On the same day, culture center of Çanakkale University has been renamed as Manfred Osman Korfmann Troia Culture Center. At this ceremony two short films about Prof. Korfmann were shown. The speakers stated that the archaeological works have come to a different stage thanks to Prof. Korfmann. Furthermore, the rectors of the universities mentioned that the cooperation between the universities and the foundation will be carried on.
